The Centre Scientifique et Technique du Batiment (CSTB) is coordinating ALDREN, a H2020 new European project bringing together 8 partners around the European Common Voluntary Certification Scheme as backbone along the whole deep renovation process.
On 20 and 21 November 2017, the official launch of the ALDREN “ALliance for Deep RENovation in buildings implementing the European Common Voluntary Certification Scheme” project was held in Paris. Focusing on creating a common language between technical experts and financial sector and investors, overcoming market barriers and promoting deep renovation of non-residential buildings, the project is funded by Horizon 2020, the European framework programme for research and innovation. Running for two years and a half, this initiative brings together eight partners: CSTB (France), ENBEE (Slovakia), IVE (Spain), REHVA (Netherlands), VERCO (United Kingdom), DTU (Denmark) and POLIMI (Italy) and numerous European experts.
How is ALDREN going to achieve higher renovation rates and better renovation quality?
The excellence of the ALDREN solutions offered are:
1) a harmonized comparable Energy performance rating based on the European Voluntary Certification Scheme (EVCS) verified by measured energy to increase comparability, confidence and market uptake by standardized solutions (CEN / ISO);
2) associating low energy renovation with high quality indoor environments to trigger renovation and to promote health and comfort;
3) aligning market recognition of high quality with enhanced building value by financial tools and capacity building. Establishing business case for deep renovation to motivate private investment and to link building ratings to private, or public national or European financing instruments.
Who will be involved?
The ALDREN support actions bring together in the ALDREN Alliance the main stakeholders involved in building renovation to specify the needs of the non-residential building sector and financial sector and to organize the pilot use of the ALDREN procedure.
The ALDREN actions are sound and credible. They answer a market request for common reliable tools by using the EVCS policy instrument (EPBD Art. 11(9)) and by completing it to reach the needed holistic approach for deep renovation.
How will ALDREN proceed?
The implementation and dissemination of ALDREN will use existing channels of environmental scheme operators for the pilot phase, as this project has been strongly supported by Sustainable Building Alliance, the main European partnership of building certification bodies, in which BREAM, DGNB, IVE and CERTIVEA are engaged.
The ALDREN overarching outcome will be the infrastructure to enable market transformation by deep renovation driven by the business case and able to directly support the EU policies (EED, EPBD).
